Artist Hildegarde Wexler:
Born in the south Bronx of New York, Hilde graduated from The City University of New York and did her Masters Degree at the Pratt Institute in Brooklyn.
After moving to Colorado in 1965 with her husband, Paul, she began a very successful professional life but always continued her painting. Her medium is acrylics and her abstracts have evolved into a collage of portraits, landscapes and seascapes. She descibes her work as life seen through a colorist's perspective.
Hilde attributes her interest in color to the time she spent in Hawaii and the Colorado mountains which have inspired her throughout her adult life in both her vocation of medicine and her avocation of art.
She feels that her love of all things oriental and the study of Japanese brush painting have had a great influence on her work.
Hilde's art work hang in offices, galleries and homes in Colorado, Delaware, Hawaii, Nevada, Washington and Wyoming. In the last year, she has had two major shows at libraries in Douglas County, Colorado and her work is displayed at the Art Guild gallery in Castle Rock, Colorado. In 2009, Hilde was selected for the juried show of the Castle Rock Art Guild "Romancing the Arts" and her painting won The People's Choice Award. Her work is on permanent display at her gallery in the Denver Tech Center.
